Mirka Lugosi’s Surreal Drawings

French artist Mirka Lugosi (who we featured in our current issue) creates surreal drawings using a small range of graphite mid-tones (and, occasionally, color) that give the work a blurry softness, transporting the viewer into a dreamlike setting. Borrowing from the forefathers of surrealism like Dali and Magritte, Lugosi’s compositions delve into the sort of uncomfortable eroticism found in the most turbulent, disturbing dreams (We all have those, right? Or is it just me?). Biomorphic forms and pointy limbs mix and melt into one another, creating a sensual yet bizarre atmosphere difficult to intellectually comprehend. Allusions to fetish and deviant sexuality pervade the work, as masked figures clad in leathery ensembles and pointy heels make regular appearances. Take a look at some more of Lugosi’s work after the jump.
