Marta Klonowska’s Broken-Glass Sculptures of Art Historical Animals

Polish artist Marta Klonowska’s work straddles the line between 2D and 3D, past and present. Klonowska creates impressive three-dimensional interpretations of animals depicted in famous paintings from the Renaissance out of minuscule shards of glass. Brittle and translucent, these figures have a strangely life-like presence despite their expressionless, geometric faces and abstracted bodies. Klonowska’s works are often displayed next to works by Goya and Rubens, from whom she draws her inspirations for her sculptures.
