Mark Whalen (Kill Pixie) and Mel Kadel at Merry Karnowsky Gallery

Last Saturday, Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles opened its doors for two solo shows, “Portals” by Mark Whalen (aka Kill Pixie) and “Stuck on a Wave” by Mel Kadel. Focusing on geometric compositions, Whalen’s latest works recall early video game design with their glowing color palette and obstacle-filled worlds where miniature characters run wild. Whalen’s glossy, resin-covered canvases are a signature part of his aesthetic and a glimpse of his process can be caught in the teaser video by theonepointeight.
