James McNabb’s “The City Series” Wood Sculptures

For his “City Series” sculptures, artist James McNabb distorts the notion of a city skyline, creating abstract wood sculptures composed of miniature buildings and skyscrapers. These angular structures take the form of natural growths, almost reminiscent of crystalized matter. This organic quality creates an interesting juxatpistion with the sculptures’ man-made subject. Created as a meditation on the artist’s journey from the suburbs to the city, the sculptures are composed of individual pieces cut intuitively, as McNabb describes it, with a band saw.
