Deenesh Ghyczy’s Kaleidoscopic Portraits

Experimenting with refracted light, Deenesh Ghyczy creates loose, expressive paintings that function as veritable optical illusions. Portraits are distorted in a kaleidoscopic fashion, creating a dizzying effect that challenges the mind to piece together the fragmented faces. Focusing on solitary subjects, Ghyczy captures his characters in quiet, contemplative moments. The reflections and distortions become metaphorical representations for their inner selves. Ghyczy has a solo show currently on display at Klettgau Galerie through March 24. Take a look at some images of the paintings after the jump, images courtesy of Deenesh Ghyczy.
